Since there is no International Tree Climbing Competition this year, New Jersey will not have a qualifying event, however, a modified event will take place. We hope to mix novice and experienced competitors together in the spirit of learning and increasing proficiency and safety of all. An overall point winner will be announced by adding the points from the Throwball, Belayed Speedclimb, Work Climb, and Timed Ascent, and will have bragging rights for the year. There won’t be a Master’s Challenge this year, and the Aerial Rescue portion will occur after demos at lunch (as a voluntary event) with plenty of time to learn from the best and compete for time. There will be prizes for the best overall times.
Registration is open to all chapter members and the deadline to register is September 2nd. Climbers and their employer must fill out the registration form (link) completely. Gear check will occur on the morning of the event from 7:30-8:00 am and the events will commence at 8:30am. Bring lunch and a cooler for the day and please call Joe Greipp at (856) 343-7571 if you have any questions or concerns. We hope to hear from you soon.
We are also hosting an inaugural inter-chapter climbing competition with the Penn-Del Chapter later in the fall. If you’re interested in competing, please let us know by registering on our website. We’re calling this the Duel on the Delaware and hope it will become an annual tradition. Please stay tuned for more information.
